Cork Board Photo Collage

by Jacey on October 29, 2014

Well, I’ve changed some things up in the house. Who’s surprised.

I had bought a large cork board off kijiji (surprise, surprise) from a school that was getting rid of them last winter. I know. I’m addicted to kijiji. I need an intervention. Kijiji addiction aside, for $20 I’m quite happy with it. It holds a massive amount of photos. I was originally there to pick up a giant blackboard that they were selling and when she told me about the cork board I couldn’t resist myself. Well done on the up sell Mrs. Vice Principal. She probably saw me coming a mile away.

Before I got around to fixing up the cork board to my liking, I had hung up some mini pictures on a clothesline on the wall. I actually really enjoyed the clothesline look, and I think I may do that again somewhere else. Having photos on the wall is nice. It makes it feel like home.

It took me a while to get around to the cork board, and then I had a hard time deciding whether to leave it as is with the cork or to paint it the same colour as the wall. Enter internal debate that stopped me from hanging it for monthssss.

Now, a word to anyone who decides to paint cork, it reallllyyyyy absorbs paint. Priming is highly recommended. I primed it twice before painting it with the wall colour to save the good paint.

In case the photos haven’t clued you in, this cork board isn’t exactly small. And there aren’t a ton of places that I could paint it. So it took up some serious real estate on our living room floor for about a week and a half. Paint supplies and a giant cork board, just hanging out on the living room floor. It probably didn’t help matters that I had waged war on the bathroom at the same time. Painting war-zone. And not even a single complaint from Gavin. He’s taking the “don’t ask questions” thing seriously. What a gem he is.

In the end I’m mucho happy I painted it. It allows the photos to really stand out, which is ultimately what you want when displaying photos. And there’s still a ton of room for more photos, so we can continue to add new photos over the years. Success. I love hanging things up.
